THREE HONOR AWARDS WILL BE PRESENTED AT 7TH MALATYA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
Honor Awards of 7th Malatya International Film Festival, which will be hosted by Metropolitan Municipality of Malatya and with the support of Governorship of Malatya between 9-16 November, will be presented to three Turkish veteran cinema figures: Unforgettable veteran actor Halil Ergün who starred in many notable films; Belkıs Özener, who embellished Yeşilçam with her unforgettable songs; Mesut Uçakan, veteran film director who gained a genuine place in Turkish cinema with his demeanor and films.

Ergün began his professional acting career with Halk Oyuncuları Theatre’s play, “Teneke” (Tin). Later in 1976, he co-founded the Ankara Birlik Theatre with Vasıf Öngören, Mustafa Alabora and Erdoğan Akduman. He made his screen debut 43 years ago with “İzin” (Permission) by Yılmaz Güney. In 1988, Ergün co-starred with Fatma Girik in “Kadın Dul Kalınca” (When She Becomes A Widow). He also co-starred with Nurseli İdiz, Füsun Demirel and Meltem Cumbul in “Böcek” (Bug), adapted from a novel of the same name written by Erhan Bener, and directed by Ümit Elçi. With this film, Ergün won three Best Actor awards in the same year.
Halil Ergün starred in many socio-realist films, and is known for his sensitivity to human rights issues in his personal life as well. Halil Ergün, who gained huge success with his roles, will be presented with the Crystal Apricot / Honor Award at 7th Malatya International Film Festival.
Voice of Yeşilçam Songs: Belkıs Özener
Belkıs Özener made her stage debut in Tepebaşı, at the age of 16. She dubbed the unforgettable film songs of the four-leaf clovers of Yeşilçam; Türkan Şoray, Hülya Koçyiğit, Filiz Akın and Fatma Girik.
This year marks Belkıs Özener’s 50th year in Turkish Cinema. She has become the unforgettable voice of popular Yeşilçam songs such as “Fosforlu Cevriye”, “Sevemedim Kara Gözlüm”, “Karakolda Ayna Var” and “Azize”.
Belkıs Özener, who made her Yeşilçam debut in 1967 with “Sinekli Bakkal” (The Clown and His Daughter), will be presented with the Crystal Apricot / Honor Award at 7th Malatya International Film Festival.
A Genuine Style In Cinema: Mesut Uçakan
Mesut Uçakan contributed to the politicization period of Turkish Cinema in the late 80s and early 90s with his films “Reis Bey” (Mr. Reis) and “İskilipli Atıf Hoca” (Atıf Hodja From İskilip). In 1978, the veteran director made his directorial feature debut, “Lanet” (Curse), starring Müjde Ar and Bulut Aras.
Being a pioneer in Turkish Cinema, Uçakan made his sci-fi debut, “Kavanozdaki Adam” (The Man In The Jar) in 1987. He was the first one to criticize the Turkish justice system during the strict censorship period, with his film “Reis Bey” (Mr. Reis) in 1988. With his film “Kelebekler Sonsuza Uçar/İskilipli Atıf Hoca” (Butterflies Fly To Eternity/Atıf Hodja From İskilip), he bravely criticized Turkey’s recent history in regard to the state courts, in 1993.
He wrote the screenplays for most of his films, including the blockbusters, and almost all of his films left a tremendous impact, sparking intense arguments.
